Transfer Instructions for Publicly Traded Stock
I. Actual Stock Certificates Held by Donor:
Three items need to be included as part of your gift package; the stock certificate(s),
a letter of authorization, and a signed stock
power. Please pay particular attention to the assignment and signature of the stock
certificate(s).
A. Assignment: On the back of the stock certificate (near the top)
there is a place to assign the stock over to another party
Do not fill out
this section.
Instead, prepare a letter of authorization stating your
intent to donate the stock to the Virginia Tech Foundation and how the gift should be
credited. This can be as simple as a hand written letter. The signature(s) on the letter
of authorization must match the name(s) on the front of the stock certificate(s).
B. Signature: Sign either the bottom of the stock certificate, or
preferably, a separate stock power. The signature(s) on the stock
(or stock power) must match the name(s) on the front of the stock certificate(s). Also, a
separate stock power is needed for each certificate having a different CUSIP number.
Send the stock certificate(s) and letter of authorization in one envelope using
certified mail, and mail the stock power separately (regular mail is fine). The two
envelopes should be sent to:
Office of Investments and Debt Management
Attn: John J. Cusimano
Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc.
902 Prices Fork Road, Suite 4200 (0455)
Blacksburg, VA 24061
II. Stock Held in Brokerage Account:
The Foundation maintains an account with BNY Mellon Capital Markets, LLC, a subsidiary of
the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, to receive non-trust related stock gifts.
The donor should notify the Office of Investments and Debt Management of their intention
to make a gift of stock to the Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. By completing a Stock Gift Processing Form, your
broker can easily transfer stocks in "street name" to the Virginia Tech
Foundation. Please have your broker fax the completed form to both BNY Mellon Capital Markets, LLC at (412) 236-4929 and to Greer Boyd with the Office of Investments and
Debt Management with the VTF at (540) 231-7751. If you have any questions, Greer may be
reached at (540) 231-7094 or idm@vt.edu.
